Is Climbing Mt Fuji Best in December, January or February?

Climbing Mt Fuji in December, January & February

Different Months, Different Experiences

We have been up Mt Fuji in every month over true winter, climbing in December, January & February. This makes for true winter ascents recognized by the climbing community, and is very different to the ‘off-season’ ascents found elsewhere.

We are the only providers of these true Mt Fuji winter ascents, based of 15 years experience and out Himalayan background. We have seen each month and got to know the differences, and how to optimize the best ways to run things accordingly.

Climbing Mt Fuji in December means short days but minimal snow and temperatures as amiable as winter ascents allow. This is a good time for fast trips as the approaches are still clear, but rockfall can be a problem.

Mt Fuji in January is the happy medium month, where things feel very alpine, days are cold, but getting longer. This is a good time for multiday trips and the snow isn’t too deep, so the bigger loads are easier to carry.

Climbing Mt Fuji in February is the full experience, with a lot of snow, extreme cold and long days. This is Mt Fuji as close to Himalayan conditions as possible, so the best time for training and things like digging snow holes.
